Let’s Go Out for a Cycle!

We got a balance bike for Mr Messer last year, it was a couple of months before he turned three. He fell in love with it the minute he saw it. After a few wobbly tries and lots of encouragement from mummy and daddy, he was flying. Zooming down a hill in a local park at a speed that gave us a lot more grey hair and left a few other parents stare after him in horror. He had no fear!

This summer, we decided to get him a proper bike with pedals and all. We had heard that the balance bike will be a give him a good foundation and that he will learn to ride a bike a lot quicker, but we never realised just how quick he would learn… He practised a couple of times with stabilisers on so he’d get the hang of the pedals. Then we took them off, helped him a few times to get going and just like that, he had learned to ride a bike! The first day, he needed a little push to get started. The following day, he had already learned that too. It took two days! I can’t believe my baby can ride a bike…

  1. Oh wow! Our little one is 3.5 and goes between his balance bike and his bike with pedals…I might try and take the stabilisers off and see what happens! Did you add the handle yourselves?

    • Yes definitely do try! We got two saddles when we bought the bike, one with the handle and one without. It was very handy to have at the start but only needed it for a day 🙂

  2. That’s awesome! My son just got a balance bike this week. I was curious if it would actually help when transitioning to a pedal bike, but it seems like it does. Thanks!
